Web site security and privacy

When you better use our website, our Internet Service Provider makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes:

  • your server address;
  • your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc);
  • the date and time of your visit to the site;
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded;
  • the previous site visited; and
  • the type of browser used.

This is used purely for statistical purposes to show broken links in our website, bottlenecks, and other site problems. We use this information to redesign for efficiency of use. No attempt will be made to identify users or your browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the Internet Service Provider's logs.

We will only record your e-mail address and other personal information when you register with us requesting to be on our mailing list or when you purchase any products from our online internet shop. Your information will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and we will not use or disclose your e-mail address for any other purpose unless required by law to do so.

Our website uses "cookies" for maintaining contact with you through a website session. A cookie is a small file supplied by us and stored by the web browser software on your computer when you access our online internet shop. The cookie allows the MDC 2010 website to recognise you as an individual.

Access to your personal information

The MDC 2010 and the Commonwealth will, upon your request, and subject to applicable privacy laws, provide you with access to your personal information held by us. However, we ask that you identify, as clearly as possible, the type/s of information requested.

We will deal with your request to provide access to your personal information in a reasonable time - usually within 30 days of receipt of your request.

We will not charge you for lodging such a request but we may recover from you our reasonable costs incurred in supplying you with access to this information.

In certain circumstances, the law permits us to refuse your request to provide you with access to your personal information. Factors affecting your right to access include where:

  • access would pose a serious threat to the life or health of any individual;
  • access would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of others;
  • the request is frivolous or vexatious;
  • the information relates to a commercially sensitive decision making process;
  • access would be unlawful; or
  • access might prejudice enforcement activities, a security function or commercial negotiations.
